The education system in India is going through a very
important & exciting phase. Like we all know there
are lot of external factors involved in the system that
influence & shape the education policy of the country.
I am going to give my 2 cents about how the system can
be made better particularly in professional courses.
Section 1.01 Do Away With Centralized Merit
Based System
As on print, admission to engineering
colleges is being made through a centralized merit system.
In fact throughout the country the same system is being
followed. There can be no second thoughts in that admission
should be merit based but I am against the centralization
policy. The system as of now doesn’t encourage
equitable growth and growth is gravitating towards areas
& people who are already doing well. Number game
is being played at every point & it is a winner
takes all, situation resulting in the great divide.
Just what am I saying here? According to the current
ranking system, students getting higher marks are grouped
together and attend prestigious colleges therefore getting
better resources & exposure. This in turn results
in lesser known colleges getting students who are not
up to the expected standard. Well in my view even though
infrastructure plays a great role in any education system
it is the quality of students that determine the status
of the college. Good Students = Good College it is as
simple as that. Since the cream has been absorbed by
well known colleges, the lesser known colleges have
to deal will low quality students and therefore growth
prospects for the region, college & students are
highly limited.
